How are the All-Conference
teams selected?
Representatives from each team rank their own players in
order of ability and send their names to the CWPA office by the
deadline noted on the Coaches’ Calendar. The CWPA office
compiles the rankings by division and releases the information to
every team to serve as a guide when voting. Teams then vote for the
top 12 field players, two goalies, a Most Valuable Player, and a
Coach of the Year, using the ballot available on the web site. The
office compiles the votes and publishes the results at the
conclusion of each season.
Who selects the Player of
the Week?
The Director of Communications selects a Varsity Player
of the Week in each division based on nominations received in the
office by Monday at 5:00 PM. For collegiate club teams, the
Director of Communications selects the individual based on
nominations submitted. If more than one nomination is received, he
may convene a panel when necessary. Nominations should include the
player's name, year at school, and relevant statistical
information.
How are the All-America
teams selected?
The highest award presented to a collegiate player for their
performance, the national All-America teams are selected by two
separate groups. Varsity athletes are recognized by the American
Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association, while club athletes from
the CWPA and the Big 10 Conference are recognized through the
Collegiate Water Polo Association. Recipients of both ACWPC and
CWPA All-America honors are named to the team based upon votes
tallied from coaches nationwide. Nominees for the club All-America
team are nominated by their coaches/club contacts near the end of
the season and voted upon by all the collegiate club coaches in the
nation. Recipients receive commemorative certificates to mark their
accomplishment.
How are the Sports
Information Directors of the Year selected?
Recipients in each varsity division during the men's (Northern
& Southern Divisions) and women's (Northern, Southern, Western
Divisions) are named by the CWPA Director of Communications based
upon their notable excellence in the field of water polo
communications during the past academic year.
How are the National
Collegiate Club, Division II/III Eastern, Eastern and Division III
National Collegiate Club All-Tournament and Most Valuable Players
selected?
Each participating head coach at the championship nominates five
field athletes and a goalie for inclusion on the All-Tournament
ballot. Coaches vote for the top 12 players in the
championship (excluding their own nominees) and submit the ballots
prior to halftime of the championship game to the Director of
Communications at the scorer's table.
