Michigan's Leah Robertson Named January 26 Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of Michigan's Leah Robertson (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) recorded five goals, one assist, nine kickouts drawn and 10 steals to power the No. 10-nationally ranked Wolverines to a 2-2 record in the season-opening Michigan Kick-Off Tournament and earn January 26 Western Division Player of the Week honors.

Michigan, the defending Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Champion, knocked off No. 7 San Jose State University (8-6 W) and Colorado State University (12-0 W), but fell to No. 3 University of California-Los Angeles (10-4 L) and No. 5 University of California (8-6 L) as the Wolverines were one of three CWPA teams to open up the season.

Against San Jose, she netted two goals and an assist as Michigan knocked off a seventh-ranked team for the third team in program history. The last time the Wolverines beat a seventh-ranked team came at the 2006 Michigan Kick-Off when then No. 9-ranked Michigan downed then-No. 7 Long Beach State by a 7-4 tally (Feb. 4, 2006).

In addition, she added a goal against California and two goals versus UCLA as the 2008 American Water Polo Coaches Association (AWPCA) Honorable Mention All-America selection raised her career scoring total to 83 goals and 73 assists for 156 points in 81 games.
