Quack Attack: No. 9 Oregon Ducks Stop No. 17 Illinois-Chicago Flames 11-2 at National Collegiate Club Championship
ATHENS, Ohio -- Pete Cromelin (Sr., Bear Valley, Idaho) scored four goals and Nate Jessop (Sr., Ashland, Ore.) added a hat-trick to lead the No. 9 ranked Ducks of the University of Oregon to an 11-2 victory over No. 17 University of Illinois-Chicago at the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship on the campus of Ohio University.
Oregon advances to face No. 6 Grand Valley State University at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, November 16 in the tournament's fifth place game, while UIC will take on No. 13 Dartmouth College at 9:00 a.m. in the seventh place game.
The Ducks sealed the win in the first half rolling out to an 8-0 lead before intermission and coasting to the nine-goal victory for the final 14 minutes of play.
In cage, Tony Nuccio (Fr., San Clemente, Calif.) and Naoki Wada (Sr., Tokyo, Japan) combined for 10 saves for Oregon, while Derrek Brace (Sr., La Grange, Ill.) blocked away four shots for the Flames.
For UIC, Andrew Peterson (Jr., Mundelein, Ill.) led the way with a pair of goals in the third period.
A key to the game were ejections as the Ducks drew 11 advantage opportunities, cashing in on three chances, while UIC drew two ejections with no man-up goals.
Oregon is already guaranteed of finishing better than its performance last season at the 2007 National Collegiate Club Championship at the University as the Ducks placed 10th a year ago.
In addition, UIC will establish a program best finish with either a win or a loss against Dartmouth as the Flames placed 13th in the program's only other appearance at Nationals taking 13th place at the 2006 Championship hosted by fellow Missouri Valley institution, Miami University of Ohio.
