Oct. 13 National Men's Water Polo Statistics Released

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The National Men's Water Polo Statistics were released by the Wagner University Sports Information Office with Collegiate Water Polo Association members among the nation's best for yet another week.

In scoring, seven of the Top 15 scorers play in the CWPA as Iona's Joe Przekota (2nd, 62 goals in 24 games, 2.58 gpg), Patrick St. Cin (11th, 42 goals in 25 games, 2.14 gpg) and Ed Gronkowski (12th, 41 goals in 24 games, 1.71 gpg), Bucknell's Richie Hyden (5th, 50 goals in 18 games, 2.78 gpg), George Washington's Nick Eddy (8th, 45 goals in 21 games, 2.14 gpg), Johns Hopkins' Peter Davis (43 goals in 19 games, 2.26 gpg) and Fordham's Alex Powell (13th, 40 goals in 18 games, 2.22 gpg) rank at the top of the national rankings.

On the other side of the tank, three of the nation's five best goalies are on the East Coast as Fordham's Timmy Will (2nd, 182 saves in 18 games, 10.11 spg), Johns Hopkins' Chris Hutchens (3rd, 177 saves in 18 games, 9.83 spg) and Iona's Eric Konzem (177 saves in 22 games, 8.05 spg) rank among the saves leaders.  Overall, Mercyhurst's Andrew Sekulski (10th, 155 saves in 15 games, 10.33 spg) and George Washington's Alex Sotolongo (11th, 149 saves in 19 saves, 7.84 spg) also rank in the national statistics as the CWPA accounts for five of the best goalies in the varsity ranks with Princeton's Mike Merlone (16th, 128 saves in 12 games, 10.67 spg) just outside the Top 15.

In the team rankings, Iona rates second in goals scored (261 in 25 games, 10.44 gpg) as the Gaels are joined by Johns Hopkins (7th, 192 goals in 20 games, 9.60 gpg) and Bucknell (9th, 187 goals in 19 games, 9.84 gpg) in the Top 10.

On defense, the CWPA is also represented as Gannon (2nd, 90 goals in 10 games, 9.00 gaa), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (4th, 91 goals in eight games, 11.38 gaa), Saint Francis (7th, 115 goals in 15 games, 7.67 gaa) and Mercyhurst (9th, 118 goals in 15 games, 7.87 gaa) rank among the nation's Top 10 teams in fewest goals allowed.
