BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team has been voted the Division II Varsity Men's "Team of the Decade" according to visitors to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) website. The Lakers captured three championships in four title game appearances during the decade (2000-09) at the Division II Eastern Championship.

The 2007, 2008 and 2009 Division II Eastern Champions, Mercyhurst also appeared in the 2004 title game falling to Salem International Unviersity.  Overall, the Lakers claimed three of the five Division II Eastern Championships contested during the decade as Queens College (N.Y.), which defeated Slippery Rock University in 2003, and Salem International were the only other Division II teams to claim a CWPA title during the decade.
