Barby Scores Seven as Washington & Jefferson Downs Penn State Behrend 13-2 in 2010 Opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior Jessica Barby (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) fired in a career-high seven goals to help Washington & Jefferson College open its 2010 women's water polo season with a 13-2 victory over Penn State-Behrend on Thursday evening at the Henry Memorial Natatorium. 

The win marked for the first at W&J for head coach Greg Jones.  W&J led 2-1 after one period and then tacked on 11 of the game's final 12 goals.  The Presidents held the Lions (0-1) scoreless for the second and third periods. 

Junior Kate Van Schaik (Arnold, Pa./St. Mary's) added three goals and one assist, while senior Katie Silvestri (Kingsville, Md./McDonogh) contributed two goals and two assists.  Silvestri also paced the squad's strong defensive effort. 

Juniors Caitlin Brown (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and Katie Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen) both added two assists.

Senior Polly Ziegler (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) earned the win in goal after stopping seven shots.
