Michigan's Alison Mantel Named March 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Alison Mantel (Jr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver) of No. 8-nationally ranked the University of Michigan tallied eight goals, seven assists and six steals in leading the Wolverines to the 2010 Elite Eight Tournament title at Indiana University to earn the March 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award.

The award marks Mantel's second Player of the Week nod in a month as she shared the February 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award with Jakie Kohli of Indiana University.

Playing against seven of the Collegiate Water Polo Association's best teams, she posted a tricorner hat-trick in a 13-7 opening round victory against Bucknell University with three goals, three assists and three steals.  In the semifinals, she tacked on three goals, three assists, a steal and a kickout drawn as part of a 7-6 win over the host and No. 18-ranked Hoosiers of Indiana.

Mantel wrapped up her weekend with a pair of markers, an assist, two steals and a field block as part of a 11-8 defeat of No. 11-ranked Hartwick College.

On the year, Mantel now has 35 goals and 27 assists in 21 contests to raise her career scoring numbers to 140 goals and 98 assists for 238 points.
