Princeton University Announces 2011 Women's Water Polo Captains & 2010 Tiger Award

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Princeton University women's water polo team recently announced its 2010 year-end award winner and captains for the 2011 season.

Senior Helen Meigs (Solana Beach, Calif./The Bishop's School) received the team's Friends of Women's Water Polo Tiger Award, which is awarded annually to the individual who contributed the most in play, sportsmanship and dedication to the Princeton University women's water polo team. Meigs completed her senior season as Princeton's all-time assists leader with 206, more than double the player in second place, and holding the four top single-season assist totals. A two-time All-Southern Division selection in her career, she also ranks ninth in career goals with 115.

Meigs served as a tri-captain for the 2010 season and Princeton will again have three captains for the 2011 season as current juniors Lauren Brunner (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis), Cari Levine (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) and Tanya Wilcox (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) were selected to lead the team.

Brunner was the Southern Rookie of the Year in 2008 and has three All-Southern honors, while Wilcox was an All-Southern choice this season. Levine played in her first full season in 2010 and scored 17 goals after injuries limited her playing time as a freshman and sophomore.

The 2010 Tigers finished the season with a 20-10 record while placing second in the Southern Division and third at the Eastern Champinoship to earn the No. 17 position in the final national poll.
