Mercyhurst Names 10 Women's Water Polo Players 2009-10 Scholar-Athletes

ERIE, Pa. -- Mercyhurst College recently announced the selection of 324 student-athletes, including 10 women's water polo players, as Mercyhurst Scholar-Athletes for the 2009-10 academic year.

Molly Keleshian (Jr., Richmond Heights, Ohio/Regina)Trish Armstrong (Fr., Jenison, Mich./Jenison), Laura Hennessey (So., Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Laura Perez (So., Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley), Nicole Nelson (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), Kylie McCormick (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla./Saint Andrews), Catherine Korenich (Sr., Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny), Hope Rozelle (So., San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo), Christine Becks (Jr., Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) and Jessica Clemente (So., Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) all earned honors as student-athletes named to the annual scholar-athlete list must own a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. This year’s total represents 62 percent of the 526 total student-athletes involved in 24 varsity sports at Mercyhurst College. 

"The dedication that our student-athletes demonstrate in the classroom is evident in these numbers," said athletics director Joe Kimball. "In addition to the success that Mercyhurst has had in intercollegiate competition, these student-athletes have proven that the classroom is just as important a venue."

Mercyhurst concluded the season with a 10-13 mark to place third in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division.
