Bucknell's Richie Hyden Named September 7 Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University's Richie Hyden (Jr., Melbourne, Australia/Grennwich (Conn.)) tallied 10 goals and 17 assists for 17 points with six ejections drawn in four games to help the No. 18-nationally ranked Bison to a 2-2 opening weekend at the Navy Open and earn the September 7 Southern Division Player of the Week award.
The award marks the second time in two seasons Hyden has been recognized as the Player of the Week as he shared the October 27, 2008 accolade with Josh Kratz of Johns Hopkins University.
He tallied three multi-goal games to raise his career scoring total to 226 goals as he aided the Bison to a 2-2 record in Annapolis, Md. as Bucknell defeated Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) foes Gannon University (13-4 W) and Fordham University (15-9 W) in non-conference action, while falling to a pair of nationally-ranked opponents in No. 2 Stanford University (22-7 L) and No. 4 University of California-Berkeley (20-6 L).
Against Stanford, he netted a hat-trick with three goals and an ejection drawn before contributing a season-high six points with four goals and a pair of helpers to go along with a ejection drawn and a steal against Gannon.
Versus Cal, he chipped in a goal, an assist and two ejections drawn before tacking on two goals and four assists for another six-point contest with two ejections drawn in the win over Fordham.
