2009 Men's Division II Eastern Schedule Revised to Three Game Format
ERIE, Pa. -- The 2009 Division II Eastern Championship on Saturday, September 12 at Gannon University will now be contested among three teams as Salem International University is unable to attend. Mercyhurst College, Gannon University and Queens College (N.Y.) will battle for the title of Division II's best East Coast team beginning at 9:00 a.m.
In game one, 2007 and 2008 Division II Eastern Champion Mercyhurst will square off with Queens, before the Knights return to the pool at 12:30 p.m. to face the Golden Knights of Gannon. Gannon and Mercyhurst will wrap-up the championship at 4:00 p.m. The team with the best win-loss record from the three games will be crowned Division II Eastern Champion.
In the event that two or all three teams finish 1-1 in the three games, goal differentials among the teams tied serves as the tiebreaker. If the goal differential in their contests against one another is the same, the total of goals scored against each other is used. If the total of goals scored between the teams is equal, their original seeding will serve as the tiebreaker. If the totals are tied at any time between two of the three teams, the tie is broken by their head-to-head result. For clarification, goal differential is a term used to describe the difference between goals scored against an opponent and the number of goals scored by an opponent against a particular team.
In addition to the Division II Eastern Championship, the Salem University-Penn State Behrend College game scheduled for Sunday, September 13 is canceled. The PSU-Behrend game versus Queens will still occur at the previously announced 10:00 a.m. opening sprint.
