FIU's Chris Arias Named September 14 Men's Club Florida Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Two-time All-America selection Chris Arias (Gr., Miami, Fla./Columbus) made his return to the pool for No. 11-nationally ranked Florida International University count last weekend as the graduate student tallied 24 goals, nine assists and eight steals in 112 minutes over four games to earn the September 14 Men's Club Florida Division Player of the Week award.
A 2005 Third Team and 2004 Honorable Mention National Collegiate Club All-America selection during his undergraduate days at FIU, Arias helped Florida International to wins over University of Central Florida (16-4 W), Florida State University (14-4 W), No. 4 University of Florida "A" (20-11 W) and University of Miami (23-3 W).
Overall, he combined with teammate Alex Lipin (So., Miami, Fla.) to tally 42 goals with 25 assists as the do accounted for over half of the Golden Panthers' scoring as FIU put up 73 goals to their opponets 22 over the weekend.
The award adds to a list of achievements by Arias including the 2005 and 2006 Southeast Division Most Valuable Player of the Year award as he led FIU to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Southeast Division Championships and appearances in the National Collegiate Club Championship where the Golden Panthers placed 10th, 7th and fifth, respectively. Further, he served as an assistant coach for the 2007 FIU squad which captured the Florida Division Championship and placed sixth at the National Collegiate Club Championship.
