Columbia University's Daniel Kirel Named September 28 New York Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Daniel Kriel (So., Miami, Fla./MAST) of the Columbia University men's water polo team tallied 13 goals, eight assists and steals steals in four games to earn the September 28 New York Division Player of the Week award while leading the Lions to a 4-0 record in division play.
A member of the Mexican team at the Maccabiah Games earlier this year, he racked up his 13 goals in only three games in helping the Lions down the United States Military Academy (10-9 W), Hamilton College (15-4 W) and New York University (13-8 W). Against Army, he netted the game-winning goal with one second left on the clock as part of a seven goal effort. In addition, he notched hat-tricks against NYU and Hamilton.
In addition, Columbia knocked off Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (18-3 W) as the Lions stand a top the division standings through one weekend of play.
