Washington & Jefferson Cages Penn State Behrend Lions 14-3 at Southern Division Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Eighth-seeded Washington & Jefferson built a 6-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-3 victory over ninth-seeded Penn State-Behrend on Friday evening in the opening round of the 2009 Southern Division Championships hosted at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium. 

The Presidents (9-9) received hat tricks from junior Bill Krause (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and freshman Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny).  Senior Steve Hilty (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshmen Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) and Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) all added two scores. 

Senior William Kidston (Pawleys Island, S.C./Northfield Mt. Hermon) and sophomore Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) finished with one-goal efforts, while senior John Todd (Joppa, Md./Calvert Hall) gathered 11 saves. 

W&J returns to action tomorrow morning when it takes on the tournament's No. 1 seed, The United States Naval Academy.
