CWPA Releases 2011 Women's New England Division Collegiate Club Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has released the schedule for the 2011 Women's National Collegiate Club New England Division.

Comprised of Boston University, Boston College, Dartmouth College, the United States Coast Guard Academy, Williams College and Yale University, the division champion will receive an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Notre Dame on May 6-8 in South Bend, Indiana.

The season will begin on February 26-27 with a 12-game tournament at Yale before the regular season concludes with a 12-game tournament at Boston University.

On April 26-27, Williams will serve as host of the 11-game New England Division Championship tournament.

Contested since 2001, the New England Division has seen four teams capture the title since 2006 with Yale (2006), Dartmouth (2009, 2007), Boston College (2010) and former division member Middlebury College (2008) claiming the crown.

Among the most successful programs in the 21st century, Dartmouth has been a force in the division since its dawning days as the Big Green have reached eight of the 10 division title games, taking the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009 championships.  In recent history, Dartmouth has reached the past four title games, falling to Boston College (2010) and Middlebury (2008) while downing Boston University (2009) and Middlebury (2007).

However, the title race has tightened dramatically over the past several years as defending division champion Boston College will seek to become the first team since the 2002-05 Dartmouth squads to repeat as New England Division champion.

The Eagles, who captured the 2008 and 2009 North Atlantic Division championships before departing for the New England Division prior to last season, will seek their fourth consecutive title and fifth straight championship game appearance as B.C. came over to the New England with the departure of 2010 North Atlantic Division champion Middlebury to its new division.

In other potential contenders, two-time champion (2001, 2006) and five-time title game qualifier (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005) Yale will seek a return to the top of the standings and continue its pattern of five-years between crowns.

Further, do not discount a first-time division champion as Coast Guard and Williams could broke through to shake-up the New England Division and send a new team to the National Collegiate Club Championship.
