CWPA Releases 2011 Women's Pacific Coast Division Collegiate Club Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has released the schedule for the 2011 Women's National Collegiate Club Pacific Coast Division.

Comprised of California Polytechnic State University, Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine University, San Diego State University, University of California-Irvine, University of California-Los Angeles "A", University of California-Los Angeles "B", University of California-San Diego, University of California-Santa Barbara and University of Southern California, the division champion and runner-up will both receive automatic berths to the National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Notre Dame on May 6-8 in South Bend, Indiana.

Unlike other divisions, with the exception of the host division for the championship, in which only the champion receives a berth to the championship tournament, due to Cal Poly capturing the 2010 National Collegiate Club Championship the Pacific Coast will receive a second berth for a fifth consecutive year.

Overall, the National Collegiate Club Championship field is comprised of the 14 division champions, the runner-up from the Pacific Coast Division and the either the host institution or runner-up from the Midwest Division, the host division for this year's championship.

The path to the Pacific Coast Division championship will begin at UCLA on February 12-13 as the Bruins will host a 18-game tournament, before moving down the road to San Diego State for a 18-game event on April 8-10.

Four games involving the UCLA "A" and "B" teams have yet to be scheduled as both squads will face UC-Irvine and Loyola Marymount on dates to be determined to conclude the regular season slate of games.

The two berths to the National Collegiate Club Championship will be decided in mid-April as the division's 10-teams go to defending National Champion Cal Poly for the 18-game Pacific Coast Division Championship on April 16-17.

Six-time national champion Cal Poly has been a dominating force in the Pacific Coast Division dating back to the 2005 season capturing the past six division titles.  Since the division's founding in 1999, the Mustangs have taken 10 crowns (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), with UCLA (2001) and USC (2004) each holding one championship title.
