BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- California Polytechnic State University continues to hold a grip on the No. 1 ranking in the Women's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) released the Week 10/March 31 edition of the rankings.
Ranked No. 1 since the preseason poll following back-to-back-to-back National Collegiate Club Championship titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010, the Mustangs are no longer a unanimous selection as Cal Poly garnered 98 points, two points shy of a unanimous selection.
It marks the first time that the Mustangs were not the top-pick of all the pollsters since the Week 1/January 27 Poll in which Cal Poly garnered 99 points to outdistance the University of Michigan, which picked up 93 points.
This week, the Wolverines close the gap with the Mustangs to three points as Michigan garnered 95 points. In addition, the University of California-Davis pulled to within seven points of Cal Poly to continue at No. 3 in the poll.
The University of California-Los Angeles and the University of California-Berkeley remain at No. 4 and 5, respectively, as the Top Five continues unchanged for another week. At No. 6, the University of Oregon moves into a tie with the University of California-Santa Cruz to mark the first position change in thet poll.
The University of Notre Dame and University of California-San Diego hold on at No. 8 and 9 for another week, with the University of Florida moving up one place to crack the Top 10.
Former No. 10 the University of Utah slides to No. 12, one place behind the University of Central Florida, while Pennsylvania State University, Grand Valley State University and Arizona State University are locked at No. 13-15.
Rounding out the Top 20 are San Diego State University, Middlebury College, the University of Arizona, the University of Texas at No. 16-19, with the University of Iowa and Duke University tying for the No. 20 position.
