BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Alexis Cherewka (Sr., Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) of Pennsylvania State University finished with eight goals in leading the Nittany Lions to a 3-0 mark at the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship hosted by Carnegie Mellon University to earn the April 4 Mid-Atlantic Division Player of the Week award.
She won all 12 sprints during the Nittany Lions three victories as PSU knocked off the University of Pittsburgh (13-4 W), the University of Virginia (10-5 W) and the University of Pennsylvania (14-6 W) to claim Penn State's first Mid-Atlantic Division title since 2005.
Against Pitt in the tournament opener for the Nittany Lions, Cherewka netted four goals to account for nearly a third of her team's offense. In the tournament semifinals, she tacked on a marker against Virginia to put PSU into the division title game for the second consecutive year.
Facing six time division champion Penn (2004, 2006-10), she added three more goals and drew four kickouts as PSU picked up the third division crown in program history (2001, 2005, 2011).
A team captain, Cherewka helped lead the Nitttany Lions to a perfect 11-0 mark in Mid-Atlantic Division play, including an 8-0 record during the regular season, as Penn State earned the division's bid to the National Collegiate Club Championship set for May 6-8.
