BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Danielle Fleuriot and Candice Cherry combined for 12 goals, 11 assists, 11 steals and 34 saves in leading Lindenwood University to the 2011 Heartland Division Championship to claim the division's Player of the Week award.
Fleuriot, who claimed solo POW honors last week, tallied 11 goals, six assists and 11 steals as the Lions downed St. Mary's University (Minn.) (18-3 W), Iowa State University (9-4 W), University of Minnesota (11-5 W) and Carleton College (8-3 W) to grab the program's third Heartland Division Championship.
The 2007 and 2008 Heartland Division champions prior to this year, Lindenwood leaned on the defense of goalie Cherry to stem its opposition's offense. In cage, she notched 34 saves, including stops on a pair of five-meter penalty shots, while scoring once and dishing out five assists to help the Lions finish the regular season with a 12-0 mark in division play.
