2011 University of California-Davis Aggies

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Tiffany Cheung (Jr., San Jose, Calif.) tallied four goals to account for over a third of her team's scoring in guiding No. 3 University of California-Davis to an 11-1 victory over No. 11 Pennsylvania State University in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship at the University of Notre Dame.

With the win, the Aggies advance to face No. 2 ranked University of Michigan at 7:30 p.m. this evening in the semifinals as UC-Davis will seek to make its first appearance in the National Championship title after previously placing third (2008) and fifth (2009).

Penn State, which will meet No. 7 University of Florida at 5:10 p.m. in the battle for a  berth in fifth place contest, is already guaranteed to post their best mark at the National Collegiate Club Championship in program history as the Nittany Lions finished 10th (2001) and 11th (2005) in their two prior trips to collegiate club athletics grandest stage.

UC-Davis never trailed in the game as the Aggies ran out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and added four more in the second period to carry an 8-0 lead into halftime on the way to a 10-goal victory.

A key to the game was UC-Davis ability to put away its gimme situations as the Aggies converted on four-of-12 advantage chances, while holding the Nittany Lions to an 0-for-four performance.

Behind Cheung, Sarah Skinker (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) ripped a pair of markers into the cage, while five other Aggies' found the back of the cage to account for all of UC-Davis' scoring.

For Penn State, Molly Podgurski (Jr., Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tallied the Nittany Lions only goal of the afternoon sticking a shot into the cage with 2:08 remaining in the first half to cut the Aggies' lead to 7-1 before Lisa Dewar (Sr., San Ramon, Calif.) converted a six-on-five chance with 1:07 remaining in the first half to make it 8-1.

Lara Kaiserian (So., Bryn Mawr, Pa.) posted seven saves for PSU, while Laura Heddleston (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) notched nine stops for UC-Davis while guarding the iron and twine.
