CWPA Releases Changes to 2012 Women's National Collegiate Club Mid-Atlantic Division Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa.  -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announces changes to the Women's National Collegiate Club Mid-Atlantic Division tournament schedule on the weekend of February 10-12 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.

In addition, the Friday and Saturday games on April 13-15 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. for the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship will now begin one hour later with contests starting at 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m., respectively.

At James Madison, the schedule of games was adjusted due to an error that became evident during the past week.  Because of the need to adjust the schedule, a single contest between James Madison and Virginia will occur on Friday, February 10 at 9:00 p.m. to begin the tournament weekend, a change from the previously announced slate of games.

On Saturday, February 11, competition will continue beginning at 9:20 a.m. and running until the final event of the day at 8:20 p.m.  Action will resume on Sunday, February 12 at 9:20 a.m. and finish with the final contest of the weekend at 5:20 p.m.  Pairings during the weekend have also changed as teams should be aware of that the sequence of their games may be different than previously outlined in earlier renditions of the schedule.

In addition to the James Madison weekend changes, game times on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 during the Mid-Atlantic Division Championship weekend at Virginia have also been adjusted.  Due to the availability of the pool, games will now begin one hour later with action on April 13 slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. and events on April 14 adjusted to start at 11:00 a.m.  Games on Sunday, April 15 remain on the same schedule as previously announced by the league office.

Divided geographically due to the size of the division, the Mid-Atlantic Division is comprised of five Northern Region teams (Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, West Chester University) and six Southern Region squads (Duke University, James Madison University, University of North Carolina, University of Richmond, University of Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University).

Following competition on February 10-12 at James Madison, regional play will occur on back-to-back weekends as the Southern Region teams clash at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. in an 11-game tournament on March 24-25.  The Northern Region programs meet in a 10-game event on March 31-April 1 at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The regular season competition will determine the seeding for the 17-game division championship at Virginia on April 13-15 as the 11-teams will meet to determine which program advances to the National Collegiate Club Championship tournament at Florida State University on May 4-6 in Tallahassee, Fla.

In the history of the division, four teams have claimed titles as defending champion Penn State (2001, 2005, 2011), Virginia (2003), Pennsylvania (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and former division member the University of Maryland (2002) each hold at least one crown.  Overall, seven teams in the history of the division have reached the title game with Penn State (2001, 2002, 2005, 2011), Maryland (2001, 2002), Virginia (2003, 2004, 2009), Pennsylvania (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), West Chester (2005), Pittsburgh (2006, 2007) and Duke (2008) each competing for the Mid-Atlantic Championship since 2001.
