Harvard University Head Coach Ted Minnis Previews 2011 Crimson Season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard University women's water polo coach Ted Minnis recently sat down with the institution's Athletic Communications office to discuss the Crimson's upcoming 2011 season, including a breakdown of his team's goals, key players and big dates leading up to the season-opener on March 5 against the Boston College club team.
The Crimson return nine players and welcomes five more to a program that earned its second consecutive bid to the CWPA Eastern Championship in 2010 and finished with 12 wins.
2010 honorable mention All-America selection Devan Kennifer returns for her junior season to lead the Crimson in 2011. Kennifer led the team with 67 goals and was a Collegiate Water Polo Association All-Northern Division first team selection as a sophomore. She was also tabbed to the Eastern Championship All-Tournament second team. Classmate Monica Zdrojewski, an All-Northern Division first team honoree, ranked second on the squad in scoring with 34 tallies while Aisha Price netted 31 goals in her rookie campaign. Returning sophomore Elise Molnar received All-Northern Division honorable mention after finding the back of the net on 26 occasions last year.
Harvard began the 2010 season on a
tear, winning its first six games of the year, and ending it with
its second straight trip to the CWPA Eastern Championship.
The Crimson's season opens Feb. 5 with multiple games against
inner-city rival Boston College, Villanova and CWPA opponent Iona.
The Crimson will also entertain guests at Blodgett Pool Feb. 23
against Brown, March 27 against Wagner, April 2 against Marist and
Connecticut College and April 3 against St. Francis (N.Y.). Harvard
will make a trip to Northern California that will span seven days
from March 13-19 and includes games against Cal, Santa Clara, UC
Davis, Cal State Monterey Bay, Fresno Pacific and Cal State East
Bay.
