University of Michigan's Kiki Golden Named January 31 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Kiki Golden (So., Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) of the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan Wolverines posted five goals, five assists, 16 steals, two drawn kickouts and three field blocks in a 6-0 weekend at the UC-Santa Barbara Invitational to earn the January 31 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Playing in all six games of the weekend, she netted four goals, five assists and 14 steals against nationally-ranked opponents as the Wolverines defeated No. 10 University of California-Irvine (13-11 W), No. 11 San Diego State University (12-11 W), No. 12 University of California-Santa Barbara (11-10 W OT SD), No. 18 University of California-San Diego (11-8 W) and No. 20 California State University-Bakersfield (15-4 W), in addition to a victory over Concordia University (12-6 W).
She posted a goal with four steals, a field block and a kickout drawn versus UC-Santa Barbara, before contributing a goal with two steals versus Concordia. Following an assist and three steals versus UC-San Diego, she returned to the tank to key the Wolverines past UC-Irvine with three assists, two steals and a field block.
Golden wrapped up the weekend with three goals, three steals, a field block and a drawn kickout versus San Diego State, before posting an assist with a pair of steals against CSU-Bakersfield as the Wolverines improved to 8-2 on the season.
