Ruth & Campbell Do the Trick as No. 20 Maryland Holds Off George Washington 10-7
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Freshmen Molly Ruth scored a career-high four goals and sophomore Allison Campbell added three to lead the No. 20-nationally ranked University of Maryland Terrapins to a 10-7 victory over host George Washington University in non-Southern Division action.
The win was the fifth straight for the 20th-ranked Terps (6-4) and first of the season against a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division member. Although the game does not factor in the race for the Southern Division crown, the contest will be used in seeding Maryland and George Washington for the CWPA Eastern Championship at Indiana University.
Junior Shelby Reyes backboned the defense with a career-high 16 saves for the Terps who led 5-3 after the first period and then snapped a 7-all tie with a goal in the final seconds of the third period.
Megan Walker and Monica Hanson had two goals each for the Colonials (2-5).
