Princeton University Defeats No. 18 UC-San Diego in Overtime, 13-12

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Princeton University kicked off its Spring Break trip with a 13-12 overtime win over the University of California-San Diego in the Tigers' first match at the San Diego State University Aztec Invitational.

Katie Rigler led Princeton with five goals, three assists and three drawn ejections in the win.

Despite an early start time, 7:00 a.m. local time, Princeton got off to a fast start and led through much of the first half. UCSD evened the score a few times and came back to take a one-goal lead with four minutes remaining in regulation, but Princeton got a man-up goal to knot the score at 10-10 and force overtime.

In the extra session, Princeton pulled ahead with two quick goals. The Tritons got back within one but Princeton again extended its lead to two. UCSD trimmed the final margin to one with a goal with 10 seconds remaining but could not get the equalizer.

Lauren Brunner scored three goals in the win and Brittany Zwirner had two goals, an assist, two steals and won four sprints. Kristen Ward went the distance in goal and made 13 saves, including a game-high four in the fourth quarter.
