ERIE, Pa. -- No. 15-ranked Hartwick College defeated Mercyhurst College and Gannon University to open up its Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division schedule. The Hawks, currently riding a 10-game win streak, downed the Lakers, 14-11, before defeating the Gannon Golden Knights, 15-11, to improve to 14-6 on the season.
The Hawks outscored Mercyhurst in each of the first three periods, opening up an 11-6 lead heading into the final period. The Lakers made it close with five of the final quarter's eight goals, but the Hawks managed to come away with the three-goal win.
Allyssa Analytis and Sami Capparelli each scored three times to lead Hartwick. Shannon Leonard contributed two scores. Lily Gall, Jessica McKee, Lisa Bass, Lily Martinez, Jemma Dendy Young and Charlotte Mensink netted one goal apiece.
Jess Dorman and Hayley Cox combined for the win in goal for Hartwick. Dorman stopped 12 Laker shots, while Cox registered two saves.
Bass was the big scorer for the Hawks against Gannon. The junior tallied six times for a seven-goal afternoon. Analytis and Mensink contributed two goals each. Martinez, Dendy Young (pictured), Leonard, Sasha Freeborn and Kristen Wagner added the other Hartwick tallies. Dorman (6) and Cox (3) teamed up for nine saves.
The Hawks have three remaining divisional games in their schedule. Hartwick plays the University of Michigan and Indiana University at Bucknell University on April 9, before playing on the road at Bucknell eight days later on April 17.
