ERIE, Pa. -- Big scoring in the first half helped the Gannon University women's water polo team to a 17-7 win over Notre Dame College at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion.
The Lady Knights scored five times in the first quarter, while holding the Falcons to just one goal. Gannon continued its offensive output in the second quarter, out-scoring Notre Dame 6-4 to hold a 11-5 lead at the half. Nine different Lady Knights accounted for Gannon's 11 first-half goals.
In the third quarter, Tricia Gajewski (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) netted two goals as Gannon won the quarter 4-2. Gannon shut-out the Falcons in the fourth quarter while Emily Sullivan added two goals for the Lady Knights as Gannon rolled to the 17-7 win.
Gannon recorded a total of 27
steals in the game, with nine different Lady Knights scoring.
Sullivan and Gajewski each accounted for three goals while Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township), Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Kelsey Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) all scored twice. Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) had seven blocks in goal.
Gannon improves to 2-13 this season while Notre Dame College falls to 0-2 on the year.
