University of Maryland's Shelby Reyes Named March 21 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Maryland goalie Shelby Reyes (Jr., Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) made 28 saves over four games to lead the Terrapins to a 3-1 mark and earn the March 21 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.

She had 11 saves, including five in the fourth quarter, in an 8-7 come-from-behind win over California Baptist University (8-7 W) at the Cal Baptist Lancer Invitational #2 on Saturday.  Against the Lancers, she turned aside two five-meter penalty shots to preserve the victory for the Terrapins.

Later in the day against Occidental College, she recorded seven stops in a 5-2 victory while spearheading a scoreless stretch of more than 14 minutes from the end of the second period to midway through the fourth.

In addition, she chipped in three saves in a 10-4 loss to No. 11-ranked San Diego State University and seven saves in a 17-4 victory over Whittier College.

The award marks her second Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week honor this season as she also picked up accolades on March 1.
