ERIE, Pa. -- Gannon University outscored its opponents 12-1 in the first quarter at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational in defeating the host institution by a 13-3 score and downing Notre Dame College (Ohio) by a 17-6 final.
Gannon jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter against the Behrend Lions after Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) netted two goals. Behrend added one goal in the final minute to make the scored 5-1 after the first period.
Gannon held the Lions scoreless in the second quarter while adding six goals to take an 11-1 lead. Five different Lady Knights scored during the eight-minute span. Each team added two goals in the third quarter before playing a scoreless fourth as Gannon won by a 13-3 final.
Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) finished with a match-high three goals while Jacobs and Tricia Gajewski (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) each scored twice. Six other Lady Knights added one goal in the win. Libbie Guina (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) had six blocks in goal.
Against Notre Dame College, Gannon used a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter to earn its second win of the season over the Falcons, this time by a 17-6 score.
Gannon added five more goals in the second quarter while holding Notre Dame to just one, holding a 12-1 lead at the break. The Falcons held a slight advantage in the third quarter, scoring twice while Gannon netted just one goal. The Lady Knights finished the match with a 4-3 edge in the fourth quarter to earn the 17-6 victory.
Liz Clary (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) led the way with three scores while Emily Sullivan (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling), Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Kelly Steininger (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) all scored twice. Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) had seven blocks in goal.
