Brown University Falls to UC-San Diego & San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Brown University lost two games to No. 11 San Diego State University, 17-6,  and No. 20 University of California-San Diego, 11-9, as the Bears near the finale of a West Coast trip.

Freshman Kate Woods led Brown's offense in both games combining for eight goals, and freshman Sarah Shin led the defense with 11 saves.

Against San Diego State, the Aztecs bolted out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Bears were able to shut out San Diego in the second 3-0 to cut their deficit to three at the intermission. But the Aztecs continued to roll and combined for 10 goals in the final two quarters to earn the win.

Woods tallied three goals for the Bears, while Emily McNamara, Katherine Stanton and Sarah Presant  each added one. Shin posted six saves in the cage.

In game two against UC-San Diego, the Tritons gained a 4-1 lead after the first eight minutes, and went into halftime with a 7-4 lead. UC San Diego edged Brown 4-2 in the third, but the Bears shut down the Tritons in the fourth, 3-0, but it wasn't enough to earn the win, falling 11-9.

Woods led the scoring with five goals, followed by Stanton with two and both Katharine Booher and McNamara with one. Shin picked up five goals in net.
