Brown University Defeats Fresno Pacific, Falls to No. 9 Arizona State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Brown University earned a split when it defeated Fresno Pacific University, 8-7, but fell to No. 9-ranked Arizona State University, 15-5.

Kate Woods led the Bears' attack with five goals against the Sunbirds, and Sarah Presant led with two goals against the Sun Devils with two goals.

Against Fresno Pacific, the Sun Devils gained a 3-1 lead after the first eight minutes, but the Bears went on to out-score their opponents 5-2 in the next two quarter to take a 6-5 lead. Both teams netted two goals in the final eight minutes, as the Bears were able to come away with the win to move to 9-11 on the year.

Woods tallied five goals to lead the offense, while senior Joanna Wohlmuth, Rita Bullwinkel and Katherine Stanton each added one. Sarah Shin posted eight saves in the cage for Bruno.

Against Arizona State, the Bears had trouble finding their offense as the Sun Devils fired off five goals in the first and second to take a 10-1 lead at the intermission. ASU outscored Bruno 3-1 in the third, but the Bears were able to edge Arizona  State 3-2 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as the Sun Devils earned the victory.

Presant led the scoring with two goals, while Avery Mosser, Gusty Clarke and Katharine Booher added one apiece. Shin picked up six saves in net for the Bears.
