Washington & Jefferson College Downs Notre Dame, Falls to Gannon & Mercyhurst at Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College defeated Notre Dame College (Ohio) in sudden death overtime, while falling to Gannon University and Mercyhurst College at Grove City College.
The Presidents earned a 11-10 sudden death overtime thriller against Notre Dame (Ohio). Senior Katie Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) had three goals, including the game-tying and game-winning tallies. Freshman Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway) and junior Sarah Cull (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) each added two goals. Sophomore McKenzie Graf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made eight saves in the cage for W&J.
W&J fell 13-3 against Division II Mercyhurst College in the second game. Graf made six saves and blocked a five-meter penalty shot. Freshman Randi Cartwright (Holt, Mich./Holt) had two steals, while Wieber, Villa and freshman Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) each scored a goal.
Villa and Cull each scored two goals, but W&J fell in its third game of the day 14-4 to Division II Gannon. The Red & Black went two-for-four on man up opportunities against Gannon. Graf made 11 saves.
