Brown University's Kate Woods Picks Up April 4 Southern Division Player of the Week Accolades

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Brown University's Kate Woods (Fr., La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) posted 20 goals, three assists, six steals and 10 ejections drawn to lead the Bears against five nationally-ranked opponents in California and earn the April 4 Women's Varsity Southern Division Player of the Week award.

The nod marks the third time Woods has earned a weekly award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league office this season as she previously notched the February 28 and March 28 Southern Division Rookie of the Week awards.  She shared the February 28 accolade with April 4 Southern Division Rookie of the Week Katie Rigler (Fr., Fullerton, Calif./Rosary) of Princeton University.

Woods second honor in as many weeks is notable as she picked up the March 28 Rookie of the Week award for recording 24 goals, five assists, seven steals and six ejections drawn in a 4-1 week for the Bears at the California State University-Bakersfield Road Runner Invitational.  Combined with this week's statistics, she tallied 44 goals, eight assists, 13 steals and 16 ejections drawn during the course of 14 days and 11 games in California for an average of 4.4 goals, .72 assists, 1.18 steals and 1.45 ejections drawn per contest over the two-week span.

Facing No. 9 Arizona State University (15-5 L), No. 11 San Diego State University (17-6 L), No. 14 University of California-Santa Barbara (12-5 L), No. 20 University of California-San Diego (11-9 L), Fresno Pacific University (8-6 W) and Division III No. 4-ranked California Lutheran University (12-11 W OT), she recorded five hat-tricks or better to key the Bears' offense.

She led the team with three goals and an ejection drawn versus UC-Santa Barbara, tallied five goals and two steals against Cal Luthteran and tacked on five goals with an ejection drawn in a two-goal defeat at the hands of UC-San Diego.  Following a three goal, one steal performance against San Diego State, she wrapped up the Golden State swing with five goals versus Fresno Pacific, including three steals and an ejection drawn, before chipping in two ejections drawn against Arizona State.
