Princeton University's Katie Rigler Earns April 4 Southern Division Rookie of the Week Honors
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Princeton University's Katie Rigler (Fr., Fullerton, Calif./Rosary) netted eight goals with a pair of assists in a 2-1 weekend for the No. 18-ranked Tigers to earn the April 4 Women's Varsity Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
The accolade marks her fourth honor of the season as she previously picked up thte March 14 Southern Division Player and Rookie of the Week honors, while sharing the February 28 Rookie of the Week award with April 4 Player of the Week Kate Woods (Fr., La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) of Brown University.
Last week at home for the Tiger Tournament against No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan, Bucknell University and St. Francis College (N.Y.), she netted a goal with an assist in a near-upset of Michigan (12-10 L) and tacked on an assist versus St. Francis (11-2 W).
Her best game of the week came versus former Southern Division rival and now Western Division member Bucknell as she rifled home seven goals to account for the margin of victory in a 12-5 win.
Rigler became the fifth Princetonian to score at least seven goals in a game and the first freshman to accomplish the feat in the history of the Tigers' program. She fell one marker shy of the school single-game scoring record of eight goals in a game shared by alumni Adele McCarthy-Beauvais and Elyse Colgan.
Her seven markers came on seven shots as she scored Princeton's first three goals to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead through a quarter. She then scored two of Princeton's four second period goals as the Tigers built a 7-4 halftime lead. Princeton stretched the lead over the final 16 minutes scoring outscoring Bucknell 5-1 in the second half.
Rigler now leads the team with 43 goals and 35 ejections drawn to accompany 11 assists, 17 steals and five field blocks.
