University of Maryland Travels to Bucknell with Eastern Championship Seeding on the Line

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland water polo team is heading into the final stretch of the regular season with key games each of the next two weekends.

The Terps (12-11) will face off against No. 6-ranked University of Michigan (23-4) Saturday before playing No. 12 Indiana University (15-10) and Bucknell University (10-10) Sunday. The Bison are playing host to all three games this weekend.

The following weekend, Maryland, which is receiving votes in the most recent national poll, returns home for its four Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division games of the season. The Terps will play George Washington (5-12), 18th-ranked Princeton (14-9), Harvard (13-9) and Brown (9-12) from Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17.

"The next two weekends will be a big test for us," Maryland head coach Carl Salyer said. "We will see how we stack up coming into the home stretch of our season and going into our conference tournament."

Games over the next two weeks will go a long way toward determining the seeding for the CWPA Eastern Championship (Note: There is no CWPA Southern Division tournament this season)

The Terps will look to their seniors for production with just seven regular season games left.

Ally Beck and Meghan Powers have consistently contributed to the team's success throughout the year. In this last stretch, the Terps are looking for leadership in the pool in order to prepare for the Eastern Championship.

Beck leads the team in goals (38) while Powers, the team's captain, has been an all-around solid contributor with 21 goals and 18 assists.

"Our success will be based on how we play as a team," said Salyer. "It is going to take the whole team's effort, not only the girls who start but also those coming off the bench."

Salyer anticipates sophomore Allison Campbell to continue her well-executed defense and ability to score goals. Campbell, who has eight goals over the last three games, leads the team in points (59) and steals (85), and her performance brings much-needed energy to the pool.

Junior goalie Shelby Reeves has anchored the defense with 131 blocks. She'll be one of the keys to the Terps drive to the postseason.

The Terps will honor their four seniors - Beck, Powers, Jessica Ernst and Stephanie Ragheb - prior to the Princeton game on Saturday, April 16 (7 p.m.).
