PRINCETON, N.J. -- Eight Tigers scored goals to help the 18th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team to a 9-2 win over Villanova University in the Black & Orange's home finale at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton jumped to a 2-1 lead in the first quarter as goalie Grace du Pont made five of her 13 saves in the opening eight minutes. Princeton expanded the lead with three goals in the second quarter and another two in the third quarter before Villanova would add another goal in the final frame.
Katie Rigler scored twice in the win, tallying both goals in the third quarter with the first coming on a five-meter shot. She now leads the team with 45 goals in her rookie season. Seven other players scored single goals in the win, including Molly McBee, who scored with the man advantage and also had an assist.
Tanya Wilcox, Sierra Schelegle and Katlin Poladian also scored man-up goals in the win. Julie Phillips added a goal out of the set and Cayley Bowles and Audrey Zak completed the scoring. Rachele Gyorffy tallied two assists. Princeton was 4 for 7 with the extra player and held Villanova without a goal in two chances.
Princeton improved to 14-9 overall with the win.
