KENOSHA, Wisc. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's water polo team earned a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Macalester College and followed that up with a 9-4 loss to Grove City College at Carthage College.
W&J (6-4) fell behind 2-0 against Macalester in the first two minutes, but battled back to defeat MC behind two-goal efforts from senior Katie Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), junior Sarah Cull (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and freshmen Margot Wummer (Havertown, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway).
The Presidents took a 4-3 lead at half and used five goals in the third quarter to pull away. Sophomore goalkeeper McKenzie Graf (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made seven saves and added three steals in the cage. Senior Kate Van Schaik (Arnold, Md./St. Mary’s) and freshman Dana Wieber (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) each scored a goal.
W&J couldn’t overcome a 6-3 halftime deficit and dropped a 9-4 match to Grove City. Cull scored twice, while Wummer and Van Schaik both added a goal. Graf had five saves and two steals in goal.
