Bucknell University Falls to No. 12 Hartwick, 14-9
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell University fell to No. 12 Hartwick College by a 14-9 margin at Kinney Natatorium. Seniors Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) and Haley Prickett (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) combined for four goals on Senior Day.
Canonica, Prickett and classmate Meghan McNally (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart) were honored during a brief pregame Senior Day recognition ceremony. All three veterans appeared in the starting lineup together and all three exited the pool together to a round of applause from the crowd in attendance following the final score of the game, a goal by Prickett, with less than 30 seconds to play.
Hartwick (23-9, 4-1 CWPA Western) started the game strong, opening up a 3-1 first-quarter advantage. Bucknell (11-16, 1-4 CWPA Western) came back and took its only lead (4-3) of the contest early in the second quarter after three consecutive goals.
The Hawks responded with a five-goal run of their own to take an 8-4 lead into halftime. Two of Hartwick's goals during that span were six-on-five scores, the only two man-up goals of the contest.
Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) scored all three of her team-high three goals in the first two minutes of the second half, helping Bucknell draw to within two (8-6 & 9-7) on two occasions. However, the Bison could draw no closer as Hartwick held Bucknell to just one goal in a nearly 14-minute span to open up a game-high 14-8 lead in the final quarter.
Playing her final game in Kinney Natatorium, Canonica tallied two goals and two assists, while Prickett added two goals and one assist, bringing her to within two points of 200 in her career. Kennan registered a teamphigh five points with two assists to go along with her three goals.
Junior Brittany Connell (Montebello, Calif./Montebello) played all 32 minutes in cage and had a team high-tying three steals and six saves, most of which came in the first half. She stopped a five-meter penalty shot in the first half as well.
Jessica McKee scored five goals and Allyssa Analytis tallied four to lead the Hartwick offense.
Bucknell, which has faced seven ranked opponents in its last 15 games, will be idle next weekend as it gears up for the Eastern Championship, which will take place April 29-May 1 at Indiana. The Bison finished fifth at last year's Eastern Championship, the best showing in program history.
