BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Freshman Shae Fournier (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Grant Park) of No. 13-nationally ranked Indiana University recorded totals of five goals, three assists, seven steals and five field blocks in a 3-0 weekend to earn the April 18 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week award.
The first player in league history to earn the awards trifecta (Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week) in a single season, she previously garnered the January 24, February 7, February 28 and March 14 Western Division Rookie of the Week awards. In addititon, Fournier picked up honors as the March 21 Western Divsion Defensive Player of the Week along with the February 28 and March 14 Western Division Co-Player of the Week as she now has a conference record eight weekly awards in her first collegiate season.
Facing Brown University (11-6 W), Harvard University (14-8 W) and George Washington University (13-8 W) of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division during a weekend trip to the University of Maryland, she factored in all three games to key the Hoosiers.
Fournier had a goal, a steal and three field blocks versus Brown before adding two assists and a team-high five steals against Harvard. She capped the weekend against George Washington with a career-high-tying four markers, a feat she has accomplished on four occassions this season, along with an assist, a steal and a pair of field blocks.
Through the conclusion of the regular season, she has season totals of 51 goals, 35 assists, 75 steals, 15 earned kick-outs and a team high 34 field blocks. In addition, the freshman has 16 multi-goal games, as well as 21 contests with two or more steals.
