ONEONTA, N.Y. -- No. 11-ranked Hartwick College defeated visiting Marist College and Siena College by identical 17-10 scores in the Hawks’ final regular season games at Moyer Pool. The Hawks finish 25-9 heading into next weekend’s CWPA Eastern Championship at Indiana University.
The victories mark the eighth straight year under head coach Alan Huckins that the Hawks have recorded 25 wins or more in a season. The Hawks have 227 victories and just 78 losses under Huckins’ direction.
Junior Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec) paced Hartwick with eight goals in the two matches. Charlotte Mensink (Nijverdal, Netherlands) and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec) each added five goals and Adrienne Holosko (Windsor, Ontario) netted four.
Against the Red Foxes, the Hawks scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter to take control. The Hawks led 8-4 at the half and never led by less than four goals in the final two quarters.
Bass scored six times to lead the Blue and White in the game as they improved to 19-1 against Marist all-time. Analytis scored five times and Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) and Mensink each contributed a pair of goals. Hartwick goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) made nine saves in the game.
Six different players registered goals in the first quarter as the Hawks jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter against Siena. The Hawks led by as many as eight in the second quarter before the Saints trimmed the margin to three, 13-10, in the final period. Hartwick closed out the match scoring the game’s final four goals for the final 17-10 score line.
Holosko scored four goals for the Hawks in the game. Mensink and Kristen Wagner (Orange, Calif.) each tallied three times with Bass contributing a pair of scores. Dorman and Hayley Cox (El Segundo, Calif.) shared time in the Hartwick cage. Dorman stopped 10 shots while Cox stopped two.
