NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Brown water polo team picked up two wins with a 12-3 victory over Connecticut College and a 14-6 victory over Utica in its final regular season games before the Eastern Championship.
Rookie Kate Woods led all scoring with six goals, while leading the defense was goalkeepers Sarah Shin and Claudia Ruiz with 15 combined saves.
Against Conn College, the Bears held a 7-2 lead at the half and went on to outscore the Camels 5-1 in the third to earn the 12-3 win. Woods tallied four goals, while Gusty Clarke and Emily McNamara added two apiece. Also scoring was Ruiz, Sarah Presant, Catie Pittman and Malaika Drebin. Shin had four saves in the cage in three quarters, while Ruiz had four saves in the fourth.
The Bears gained a 5-2 lead after the first eight minutes against the Pioneers, then outscored Utica 3-2 in the second to lead 8-4 at the intermission. A big 5-1 third quarter for the Bears helped lead the squad to its 14-6 win over Utica.
Woods, McNamara, Ruiz, Presant, and Drebin each scored two goals apiece, while Rachel Karen, Allyson Schumacher and Briana Borgnani tallied one for the Bears. Shin picked up three saves in the cage while Ruiz earned four.
