Another Week, Little Change as Stanford & Occidental Continue at No. 1 in Week 14 Women's Varsity National Polls
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The top teams in the nation remain the same as Stanford University and Occidental College held onto their No. 1 preseason national rankings for the 14th week in a row to top the Women's Varsity Top 20 and Division III Top 10 polls released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
In the CWPA polls, defending conference champion the University of Michigan continues at No. 1 in the league's Division I poll, while Carthage College remains on top in the Division III rankings.
Voted on by a panel of coaches and administrators from around the country during the preseason and each week of the season based on the cumulative results of each team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls are released on Wednesday during the season until the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
Women's Varsity Top 20
Stanford University remains a unanimous selection
at No. 1 in the nation as the Cardinal garnered 100 points to
remain unchallenged in the April 27 Women's Varsity Top 20
Poll.
Ranked No. 1 in the preseason (98 points), and the first two polls of the regular season (99 points), the Cardinal clinched a unanimous spot on top of the poll 11 weeks ago and remain the consensus pick as the top program in the nation.
Overall, the poll is mostly consistent with the April 20 rankings as 18 of the 20 teams selected in last week's poll retain their position for another week.
The lone change in the poll comes at No. 12 as Arizona State University moved in front of Hartwick College to take over at No. 11 and drop the Hawks back one position.
However, the rankings should dramatically shift in seven days in the wake of the conference championship tournaments.
