BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Brown University freshman Kate Woods (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) tallied 14 goals to garner honors as the May 2 Women's Varsity Southern Division Rookie of the Week.
The nod marks the seventh time Woods has earned a weekly award from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league office this season as she previously notched honors as April 4 and April 25 Southern Division Player of the Week, along with the February 28, March 28, April 18 and April 25 Southern Division Rookie of the Week awards. She shared the February 28 accolade with Katie Rigler (Fr., Fullerton, Calif./Rosary) of Princeton University.
In a 2-1 weekend for the Bears at the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's Eastern Championship on the campus of Indiana University, she registered a pair of five-goal games and a four-marker contest to lead all scorers.
She opened the championship event with four goals in a 16-11 loss to Bucknell University, before contriburing five markers in an 11-8 victory over Gannon University to reach the ninth place game.
Against Mercyhurst College for ninth place in the 11-team field, she posted five goals in a 15-8 victory.
For her performance, she was named to the All-Tournament second team in the wake of claiming laurels as the Southern Division Rookie of the Year and All-Southern Division first team.
