Olympian Genai Kerr Named Brown University Water Polo Assistant Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Head coach Felix Mercado has announced the addition of Genai Kerr to the Brown University men's and women's water polo staff.  A 2000 graduate of the University of California-Irvine and a two-time All-America goalkeeper, Kerr was a member of the 2004 USA Olympic Team.

"I am very excited to bring to our programs someone with such great experience," said Mercado. "I am looking forward to working with Genai to help lead us to great heights."

Kerr earned degrees in both Studio Arts and Education at UC-Irvine, and earned All-America honors in 1998 and 1999 in addition to garnering the Big West Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award as a senior.

Kerr's extensive international playing experience includes Pan American, FINA and Olympic Championships with the US National Team. A member of the 2004 Olympic Team that competed in Beijing, China, he comes to Brown with extensive coaching experience at the high school, club, and collegiate level in California.

"Felix Mercado and I share the same passion for water polo and motivating young student-athletes," said Kerr. "I am excited to be involved with such incredible programs and I hope to use my past Olympic experience and coaching experience to inspire the teams to achieve their goals. Knowing how dedicated the players are to excel both academically and athletically makes my job easy to help guide them to greatness."
