BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league office wishes you a Happy July 4th. On this day of summer celebration, remember all those who serve their country and continue to protect the right to freedom around the globe.
In this light, some people need to be thanked:
To the league players and coaches (past and present) who have worn the uniform of their country and gone off to the hills of Afghanistan, the sands of Iraq and flown, sailed, marched or drove across the air, sea and land of the world, we extend to you the thanks of a grateful nation.
"But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or to detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here." ~ Abraham Lincoln
To the fellow players or coaches who lead men and women from freshmen orientation, through counless games and into adulthood, we thank you for your time and efforts.
"All we have of freedom, all we use or know -This our fathers bought for us long and long ago." ~ Rudyard Kipling
To the parents and siblings of each player in the league, who cheer on their children, brothers or sisters, we thank you for your support.
Build me a son who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid, one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory. ~ Douglas MacArthur
But most of all, we thank the league membership (institutions, players and coaches) for their love of the sport of water polo, and the joy of the game. Without the more than 285 teams (club and varsity) who tie their cap straps, dive in and compete exclusive of championships and glory, there would be no water polo on the collegiate level. We realize the sacrifices that you make to compete and thank you for your love of the game.
