Utica College's Evelyn Kurzac Named ACWPC All-America Honorable Mention
UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica College freshman utility player Evelyn Kurzac (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) became the first player in the history of the water polo program to be named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Division III All-America Team by earning honorable mention notice on the 2011 squad.
Kurzac's scoring ability helped her
receive a nomination by the division's head coaches. She scored a
record-breaking 55 goals and recorded 102 shots total this past
season. The previous record was 48 goals set by Amy Gascon in 2008.
Kurzac is now ranked second on the College's all-time scoring list
and she is also ranked fourteenth all-time in steals (32) and kick
outs (six).
In her first collegiate tournament she recorded 22 goals, five
steals, four assists and became the first player in school-history
to be named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's
Varsity Division III National Player of the Week and Division III
Rookie of the Week.
The Pioneers ended the 2011 season with a school-record five
victories and placed eighth at the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo
Association.
