Penn State-Behrend College's MaryEllen Spooner Garners All-America Honorable Mention Accolades
ERIE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State University-The Behrend College sophomore MaryEllen Spooner (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) was named a 2011 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America honorable mention selection for the second straight season.
She almost doubled her goals from a year ago, scoring a team-best 42 and dishing out 11 assists. Spooner also recorded 47 steals and 30 drawn kickouts. She broke the school record for most goals in a game on two occasions, setting the record with nine goals against Notre Dame College (Ohio).
Spooner was recognized as Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Division III Player of the Week and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.
She is the first women’s water polo player at Penn State-Behrend to be named a two-time All-America selection.
