SHANGHAI, China -- Hartwick College alums/Australia National Team members Bronwen Knox and Sophie Smith will battle University of Michigan alum/USA National Team goalie Betsey Armstrong on Friday, July 29 for fifth place at the 2011 FINA Women's Water Polo Championship.
Australia advanced to the fifth place game with a 12-7 victory over defending Olympic champion the Netherlands. In the game, Knox punched home three goals, while Smith contributed to the win to set-up a meeting of three Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) alumni for fifth place.
Armstrong and the Americans advanced to the fifth place contest courtesy an 8-4 victory over Canada behind 12 saves in cage.
Knox, Smith and Armstrong will clash at 10:50 local time/7:50 p.m. on Friday.
In other action featuring a CWPA alumnus, Spain defeated New Zealand and former Hartwick Hawks' student-athlete Kirsten Hudson to claim 12th place.
