Mercyhurst Manages Harvard 11-3 in ECAC Championship Second Round
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Another tough second period and a strong defensive showing by Mercyhurst College on Saturday, September 18 led the Harvard University men's water polo team to another defeat at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at Blodgett Pool, 11-3.
Harvard stayed close after Mercyhurst struck first in the opening period, tying the game at 1-1 before Mercyhurst took a 3-2 lead at the end of the period. The Crimson's offense would go cold, though, mustering just one more goal for the rest of the game. The Lakers took advantage, pulling away by scores of 6-3 at halftime and 10-3 at the end of the third period.
Senior Alex Thompson had two goals to lead Harvard and senior Jeff Lee added to his team-leading 14 goals this season with a tally in the game as well
Harvard will face the 12th-seeded Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday, September 19, in the 11th place game, while Mercyhurst will meet Iona College in the ninth place contest.
