2010 Men's Varsity Week 9 Polls Released; California Remains at No. 1 in the Nation
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The University of California garnered 100 points for a third week in a row to remain as a unanimous top choice in the Week 9/November 3 Men's Varsity Top 20 poll released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. The University of Redlands and St. Francis College (N.Y.) also held onto their No. 1 rankings in the Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 polls for another week.
Voted on by a panel of coaches and administrators from around the country during the preseason and each week of the season based on the cumulative results of each team, the Varsity Top 20, Division III Top 10 and Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 polls are released on Wednesday during the season until the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
Men's Varsity Top 20
The University of California remains at No. 1 for another week as the Golden Bears once again garnered 100 points to top the Week 9/November 3 Men's Varsity National Top 20.
California, which garnered 95 points to edge out the University of California-Los Angeles by a single point (95-to-94) in the preseason rankings, previously ranked No. 1 as a unanimous choice in the September 8, September 15, October 20 and October 27 polls.
The University of Southern California, which held the No. 1 ranking in the September 22, September 29, October 6 and October 13 polls, stays at No. 2 this week as the Top 12 in the balloting remains unchanged from the October 27 poll. Overall, only one team in the Top 20 poll from last week moves down as the University of California-Davis took over sole control at No. 13 after tying with St. Francis College (N.Y.) last week.
UCLA, Stanford University, the University of California-Irvine, the University of California-Santa Barbara, University of the Pacific, Long Beach State University, Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University complete the Top 10.
In the next ten, Santa Clara University and the University of California-San Diego continue to hold down the No. 11 and 12 positions, respectively, with UC-Davis remaining at No. 13 and St. Francis slipping back to No. 14 by a point.
The United States Naval Academy and California Baptist University remain at No. 15 and 16, while Princeton University moved into a tie with Bucknell University at No. 17.
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the United States Air Force Academy round out the Top 20 by tying at No. 19, with Concordia University (Calif.), Brown University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving votes.

Men's Varsity Division III Top 10
The University of Redlands remains at No. 1 in the Division III world for a second week in a row as the Bulldogs garnered 100 points to top the Week 9/November 3 Men's Varsity Division III Top 10 poll.
Johns Hopkins University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps both climb one place to rank at No. 2 and 3, while Pomona-Pitzer Colleges falls to spots to No. 4
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Whittier College, Occidental College and the University of La Verne complete the Top 10.

Men's CWPA Top 10
St. Francis College (N.Y.) retained its position as the No. 1 team in the Week 9/November 3 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Men's Varsity Top 10 poll by the narrowest of margins over the United States Naval Academy.
The Terriers, who were a unanimous pick last week, now lead the Midshipmen by only a point as Navy cut the previous five point spread to one at 98-to-97 in this week's balloting.
Princeton University, Brown University and Bucknell University complete the Top Five which did not change from the October 27 poll.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology inched in front of Johns Hopkins University to take over sole possession of sixth place after tying with the Blue Jays last week, while JHU, Fordham University, George Washington University and Mercyhurst College complete the Top 10.
